Front-end Web Developer Vacancy

PlusNet plc is currently recruiting for a front-end web developer within their Web Development Team based in Sheffield.

The successful candidate should be a forward thinking developer who is well versed in developing W3C compliant XHTML/CSS layouts. They will input into the design process from the start, advising our web designers on user interface techniques and how pages could be constructed technically. They will also work very closely with our software development team so a solid understanding of software development and template integration is needed. Ideally the candidate should come from a creative background and be able to demonstrate web design experience, but this is not essential.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Build complete web pages and templates for our websites in valid XHTML & CSS.
  • Build pages to both brand guidelines and coding standards such as W3C and internal documentation.
  • Provide recommendations and advise the creative teams on solutions to their project briefs relating to implementation.
  • Make changes to graphical layouts using industry standard graphics packages.
  • Time planning and good time management in order to effectively communicate and deliver to deadline.
  • Awareness of the ISP industry, competitors and new technologies.

Essential Skills:

  • Demonstrate creative flair with an eye for detail.
  • Strong knowledge of XHTML and CSS and building to cross browser/platforms.
  • Understand the importance of WAI and how to build pages that are accessible.
  • Strong knowledge of creating optimised images for the web.
  • A solid understanding of software development languages such as PHP.
  • Ability to work to brand guidelines and a brief where necessary.
  • Ability to work with and apply logical structured naming conventions when dealing with images, HTML, CSS, and other file types within directories.
  • A good knowledge of the web industry.
  • Experience of content management system functionality and development.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies and being at the forefront of current trends.
  • Effective and clear communication skills.
  • The ability to work comfortably individually as well as in a team.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience of the LAMP development environment.
  • Experience of web analytics tools e.g. WebTrends, Google Analytics.
  • Experience of using Photoshop and/or Fireworks for manipulation of graphics.
  • A good knowledge and practical experience of JavaScript and ActionScript.
  • A solid understanding and practical use of SEO techniques.

All candidates must include examples of XHTML & CSS coding to be considered for this position.
