Broadband ADSL - A220 PCI Modem Setup

Follow our exclusive guide below to get your new modem installed quickly and easily. This guide is based upon the Windows XP operating system but most versions of Windows will be similar to set-up. For other operating systems, please refer to the manual provided on the included CD.

1 Follow the manufacturers guide, provided with your PC, for instructions on how to install your internal PCI modem card. Here are some useful points to remember:
- Place your computer on a flat clean surface and unplug all leads and peripherals.
- Opening your PC's case could invalidate any warranties you may have. Check with your computer supplier to find out if this is the case, as your warranty may require a professional installation.

2 Once you have installed the modem card, turn your PC on. The 'Add New Hardware' Wizard will automatically detect the PCI modem when Windows has started. This should be used instead of the setup wizard on the driver CD (included with your modem). Therefore, insert the CD and cancel the automatic installation when it appears. You should be left with just the Found New Hardware Wizard.

New Hardware Wizard

3 In the Found New Hardware Wizard, click Next to begin. Select 'Install the software automatically' (or 'Search for a suitable driver', depending on your Windows version) and click Next. If prompted, choose 'CD ROM' drivers, then click Next. Otherwise, follow the Wizard until it is complete and then click 'Finish'.

4 Three icons will be added to your desktop during installation: 'ADSL PCI Modem Wizard', 'ADSL PCI Modem' and 'ADSL PCI Control Panel'. Click on the 'PCI Control Pane'l icon. In the window that appears, hold the Alt key and press the C key to view the advanced settings. Three additional tabs will appear: 'AutoLog', 'Line Setup' and 'Protocol Setup'. The settings to enter on each tab are as follows (note that AutoLog should be disabled, this is for fault diagnosis only):

Line Setup

Line Setup
Modulation: G.dmt
Wiring selection : Line Tip/Ring
ADSL Head End : Alcatel Network Systems Inc.
ADSL Head End Env : Non-Specific

Protocol Setup

Protocol setup

Encapsulation mode : PPP over ATM VCMUX

5 Click OK to close the window and save your settings. Your modem card is now set-up and you are ready to connect.

6 Open the ADSL Connection by clicking on the 'ADSL PCI Modem'. In the window that appears enter your broadband username and password. Your broadband username is: username@plusdsl.net (where 'username' is the username you chose when you registered). Enter your password as normal and click Dial (or Connect). Congratulations, you're now connected to broadband!
