Summary: Find out which ports are blocked for security reasons.
No ports are automatically blocked on our network. You can choose to block certain
ports on your broadband service using the Broadband Firewall tool - control
your Broadband Firewall. What's a port?Ports are the way that several computer programs can communicate over a network at the same time, by separating the 'conversations' onto different ports, which act like channels. A web browser will receive webpage data on port 80, while an email program would send email data using port 25 or receive email data on port 110. Certain ports can be exploited by viruses and trojans, these ports are often blocked to reduce the risk of a virus infection. You can protect your network from viruses by activating your Broadband Firewall. Is a blocked port stopping my software from working? If you find that some of your software is not able to access the Internet, it may be trying to use a port that is blocked, by your Broadband Firewall, or a firewall based in your router or computer. You should always test your software with your firewalls briefly turned off before raising such problems with our Support Team. All information is correct as of 22nd August 2007
