1. What is domain registration?
There are two parts to registering a domain name:
- Registration - the domain is registered with one of the organisations that manages internet naming. Don't worry, PlusNet can do this on your behalf.
- Hosting - after the domain is registered, it is entered onto PlusNet's domain system. Your email and webspace will then work automatically.

2. How to register a domain
Registering a domain name is easy:
- Choose a domain name -
You need to check that someone else hasn't already registered the domain name you want. You find out if a domain is available to register by using a domain checker.
- Complete the registration form -
Once you've checked that your domain name is available you need to complete the Domain Registration Form. Once you've filled in the form you'll be charged a fee to register the domain.
- Your domain is registered -
PlusNet now contacts the company who holds the domain name you want and makes a request for this. The domain is then tagged so that PlusNet can host it. This process may take 2-3 days to complete.
- Hosting your domain
The new domain name is now controlled by PlusNet. It will now appear in the Domain names section of the Member Centre. From here you'll be able to make any changes to the way your domain works by clicking the Configure button, shown next to each domain.
- Domain renewal
Your domain will have a registration period (normally 1-2 years) after which you'll need to renew it. You do this by paying a renewal fee to us. We'll contact you about 3 months before your domain renewal is needed to let you know.
Note: domains are automatically renewed 30 days before the renewal date. If you decide that you don't want to carry on using your domain, you should visit your Domain Controls and do the following:
- Click Configure next to the domain you don't want to renew.
- Scroll down to the Renewing your domain section.
- Click the link on Option 2. (Doing this means you will lose your domain after the expiry date).
