Summary: A guide that will help you make the most of our FrontPage service.
IntroductionFrontPage is a program by Microsoft that lets you easily create web pages and web sites. Rather than writing HTML code yourself, you edit your pages using an interface that's similar to a word processor or desktop publishing program. If you've made a site using FrontPage, you can host it using our FrontPage service. Do you support ASP?The FrontPage service does not support Active Server Pages. Web programming and database access is available though our Unix/Linux based CGI and MySQL services. Can I use the FrontPage service with my hosted domain? Not directly, but you can use our guide to allow people to find your FrontPage site using your domain - Using a hosted domain with your FrontPage site Can I use the FrontPage service with Webstats? Our FrontPage service does not work with our webstats option, although it is possible to use a FrontPage specific webstats solution. Who can use our FrontPage service?FrontPage services are available on some of our subscription based products, except PlusNet Lite, Broadband Plus, Plusnet Value, Plusnet Pro and Plusnet Unlimited. However, If you're already a Plusnet customer and switch to Plusnet Value, Plusnet Pro or Plusnet Unlimited you won't lose any FrontPage service you're using. Can I use the FrontPage service straight away?See the following section on how to activate our FrontPage service and how we'll tell you when it's ready for use. [Top]Activating your FrontPage service
We'll send you an email to confirm when your FrontPage service is up and running, this can take up to 4 days. [Top]Publishing with FrontPageOnce we've confirmed that your service is ready, the next step is to set up your FrontPage program so you can publish your pages.
There's more information on setting up FrontPage at Microsoft's site - Microsoft FrontPage setup. (Remember to make note of which version of FrontPage you use.) When your website has been uploaded, you will be able to view your results at http://fp.username.plus.com. (Don't forget to change username to your own username!) Please note: it is not possible to upload your files to the FrontPage server using an FTP client - you can only use FrontPage itself. Changing your FrontPage passwordNote: This applies to FrontPage 2003 and above Change your password by taking the following steps:
Using a hosted domain with your FrontPage siteIf you want to point a domain to your FrontPage web site, follow these instructions: What do you need?
Copy the following HTML code into your text editor: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd"> <html> <frameset cols="0,*"> <noframes> </html> Change the following code: YOUR SITE TITLE HERE - this should be changed to whatever you call your website. Save the file as index.html Copy the following HTML code into your text editor. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <body> </html> Save this file as anchor.html Upload these two files to your normal (non-FrontPage) website. Test the redirect is working by putting your domain address into a browser. You should immediately see your FrontPage site. If this technique doesn't work for you, it is possible to use FrontPage to create your site, then upload the files manually to the web servers, so long as you don't need to use any FrontPage Extensions.
