    Make a note of your MAC key and come back to us (we'll still be here). Signing up for Plusnet broadband with a MAC key isn't essential but it ensures that we can activate your new broadband with no loss of service.

  3. If you can't wait for your MAC key - Don't panic

    You can still sign up for Plusnet broadband and reserve your preferred username. We'll create your account and ask for your MAC key later.

  1. What is a MAC key and why do I need one?

    MAC keys are unique codes which allow you to switch broadband provider without any loss of service. If you receive your broadband service through a phone line then you'll need a MAC key to switch to Plusnet.

    It'll look something like:

    BBIP12345678/9AB12 (Sometimes codes also start with FTIP, BBDP or BBDS"

    If you have fibre broadband it'll look something like:

    LXXX1234567/AB25F

  2. How do I get a MAC key and how long does it take?

    Simply by calling your existing broadband provider and asking for one. Here's a list of Internet Service Provider phone numbers

    By law your existing provider must give you a MAC key within five working days.

  3. Can I switch to Plusnet without a MAC key?

    You can still sign up for Plusnet broadband and reserve your preferred username. We'll create your account and ask for your MAC key later.

You'll need a Plusnet or other BT based landline to get our broadband.

Our landline phone service costs from £9.49 for line rental including evening and weekend calls. Find out more about our packages.

Broadband speed: We'll give you the best download speed available on your line up to 16Mb if you live in a high speed area, dependent on your location, phone line, home wiring and time of day. Because of these factors your speed may be higher or lower than up to 16Mb. We'll provide you with a speed estimate when you check availability of our products. Find out why speeds vary.

Broadband with a 12-month contract: There's a £25 broadband activation charge, but we'll give you this free if you add one of our phone packages to your order. We'll also include a wireless router worth £40. (You'll just pay £4.99 P&P) If you leave within 12 months, you may be liable to pay charges relating to the set-up of your service and for hardware we have provided.

Broadband with no annual contract: There's a £25 activation charge (you'll pay this even if you add a phone package to your order). You can use your own router if it's compatible or you can pay for one up front. Minimum term of 30 days.

Evening & weekend calls: Means calls to Uk landlines beginning with 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 made Monday-Friday 19:00-07:00 and anytime Saturday or Sunday.

Anytime calls: Means calls to UK landlines beginning with 01, 02, 03, 0845 and 0870 at anytime.

Hang up and re-dial before 60 minutes and you won't be charged. Calls to indirect access numbers and dial up internet access are excluded. See the Home Phone FAQs page for more details about call charges.
