Broadband Your Way Pro Information

Broadband Your Way Pro is broadband for those who want that little bit more. It's optimised for gamers - read on to find out how, and how you can customise your product.

Taking control of your broadband

Control your spend
Broadband Your Way Pro comes with a 10GB usage allowance (plus free overnight usage). Extra usage is £1.50 for 2GB if you add it up front, or £1.80 for 2GB if you just pay for any extra as you use it. If you know that you only have so much to spend each month you can set a price limit, and then if you reach your limit your line is restricted to 128kbps and advanced protocols (Usenet, P2P and FTP) are blocked until the end of your billing month.

Control what you do online
With Broadband Your Pro you get options to customise your broadband experience. Turn your broadband firewall on or off, get a Static or Dynamic IP, even control whether interleaving is on or off (turning it off gives better performance for gaming).

How we optimise Broadband Your Way Pro for online gaming
Our network management is some of the most advanced in the business. We can spot when you're playing games, and give that traffic the highest priority on our network. That means you won't get fragged because of contention on our network (of course, you might still get fragged, that depends how good you are).

We use Deep Packet Inspection technology from a company called Ellacoya to prioritise gaming and VoIP traffic. This lets us look at traffic and the ports it uses and match it to our database of games and VoIP servers. We regularly update this database as new games and services are released.

We have 4 traffic priority levels. Broadband Your Way Pro differs from our other products in that all traffic is in the top 2 levels.

Titanium - This is the highest priority on our network. Gaming and VoIP traffic is in this level.
Gold - All other Broadband Your Way Pro traffic is in our gold level.
Silver - No Broadband Your Way Pro traffic is in this level.
Bronze - No Broadband Your Way Pro traffic is in this level.

Free overnight usage

Usage between midnight-8am doesn't count towards your usage allowance. That means you can stay up all night playing games across time zones without using your allowance. You can also schedule patch downloads for these hours.

Stuff you need to know

1. Why 'up to' 8Mb?

- Broadband is described as 'up to' 8Mb because download speeds will vary depending on your telephone line and location.
- Actual download speeds can reach a maximum of 7Mb, with an average speed of 5-6Mb. BT Wholesale estimates that 78% of customers will achieve download speeds of 4Mb and above.
- It is likely that speeds no greater than 2Mb will be achieved at peak usage times due to contention in our network and our suppliers' networks.
- Download speeds will vary significantly in the first 10 days after connection and then will become more consistent.

2. Wireless router and activation

Wireless router and activation are available free if you stay with us for 12 months. Leave within 12 months and you will pay the full cost of the wireless router and activation (read Terms and Conditions).

3. Anytime Calls

Anytime calls can only be made to standard UK landline numbers beginning with 01 & 02. Other calls are also available at cheap rates. Calls to other Broadband Phone users and customers of associated VoIP providers are free. Broadband Phone is a VoIP service. It does not support emergency 999 calls and may not work in the event of a broadband failure or power cut, nor does the service provide location information to the emergency services.
