The Windows 7 Firewall should be switched on by default but if you're not sure what it's set to, follow these steps to check:

  1. Open the Start Menu and click Control Panel

    Open the Start Menu and click Control Panel
  2. Under System and Security, click on Review your computer's status.

    Under System and Security, click Review your computer's status
  3. You can now see if Windows Firewall is protecting your computer.

    If you need to switch Windows Firewall on or off, click Turn Windows Firewall on or off on the left menu. We recommend that you keep the firewall on, unless you are troubleshooting connection problems or you've installed an alternate firewall program.
