Summary: Spam emails not being detected correctly? Getting email marked as spam that shouldn't be? Find out how to deal with these issues.
This article discusses options to deal with spam emails that are marked incorrectly and how you can report spam to help stop the spammers from sending these emails initially.
Spam emails have not been marked as [-SPAM-]Although our spam filter is very effective in determining which emails are spam, it is possible that some emails will get through our checks. Spammers are constantly trying to update their emails to get around the filters that people put in place and new email content is appearing all the time which needs to be trained into our spam filters to ensure that it will be picked up correctly in the future. You will need to forward the email as an attachment to spam@spamtraining.plus.com. We will use this in conjunction with our partners at Postini to help improve our systems. (See our article on how to forward emails as attachments if you need help to do so.) You can also use the Fast Forward utility if you are using a Windows based PC and using Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora or Incredimail. Please note that such training may not have an immediate affect due to the way that the spam filter works, but this will help in the longer term.
False Positives - An email has been marked as [-SPAM-] but it is legitimateUnfortunately, in the same way that our spam filters can miss marking a spam email, it can sometimes think an email is spam when it isn't. If you have such an email, please forward the email as an attachment to notspam@spamtraining.plus.com. We will use this in conjunction with our partners at Postini to help train our systems. (See our article on how to forward emails as attachments if you need help to do so.) Please note that such training may not have an immediate affect due to the way that the spam filter works, but this will help in the longer term.
Reporting spam using SpamCopIf you wish to report spam to an authority, we would suggest using one of the online systems set up for this purpose, such as SpamCop. SpamCop requires you to register for an account, which is free. You can then log into your SpamCop account and report any spam emails you receive. SpamCop will generate appropriate messages to be sent to the administrators of the email servers involved and any websites which may be advertised in the spam email, helping to stop the spamming at source. Full details can be found on the SpamCop website.
FastForward utilityFastForward (previously known as SpamTrainer) is a small customer-developed plug-in for Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora and Incredimail. This application has been built to automatically forward emails to our spam filters, making this an easier and quicker process.
