What Is VPN?

Virtual Private Networking is a method of allowing a standard network connection to be used as an extension of a company or private network.

This gives a cost effective alternative to providing a dedicated network and allows remote users to connect into corporate networks in a secure way.

How Does It Work?

VPN software works by encrypting all traffic between two points, the Internet equivalent of a scrambled telephone line. It is this encryption which makes a VPN secure.

What Is Required?

To setup a VPN you need a working Internet connection, appropriate software on your computer and a network or computer/server to connect to.

Checking your firewall settings

In order to run a VPN successfully you will need to make sure your PlusNet supplied firewall is set to an appropriate setting.

This will require setting it to either "off" or "low", you can change the setting using the following link:

Firewall Settings

Please note you will need to restart your connection (i.e. restart your router or modem) for the new setting to take effect.
