    Connecting to the Internet on an Xbox

    Here's all you need to know to connect your Xbox One, Xbox Series S or Xbox Series X to your new router.

    Xbox Connection FAQs

    This guide will show you how to connect an Xbox to a wireless router supplied by Plusnet. You should be able to use it with other wireless routers as long as you know the Wireless Name (SSID) and password of the network you're connecting to.

    Connecting your Xbox using an ethernet cable will give you a more reliable connection, however if this isn’t an option, WiFi will still get you a solid Internet connection.

    Wired Connection
    1. Ethernet cables have yellow ends
    1. Plug one end of an ethernet cable into one of the ports on the back of your router and the other end into the ethernet cable into the port on the back of your Xbox labelled ‘LAN’
    2. Press the ‘Xbox’ button on your controller to open the guide
    3. Select ‘Profile & System’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Network Settings’
    4. Select ‘Test Connection’
    5. Your Xbox will check your network
    6. You’re all connected and ready to start gaming

    Wireless Connection

    You'll find the Wireless name (SSID) and password on a sticker on the bottom or back of your router or on a pull-out tab at the back. If you're connecting to the Internet using one of our routers, the SSID will look something like this: PLUSNET-1A2B3C or PlusnetWireless1A2B3C.

    Your wireless password (wireless key or WPA PSK) is made up of a series of numbers and upper and lower case letters.

    1. Press the ‘Xbox’ button on your controller to open the guide
    2. Select ‘Profile & System’ > ‘Settings’ > ‘General’ > ‘Network Settings’
    3. Select ‘Set up wireless network’
    4. A list of access points will be shown, select your router's Wireless name (it'll start with Plusnet).
    5. You'll be asked for the password. This is the Wireless key (or WPA-PSK key) shown on the bottom of your router. Enter this, then select ‘OK’

    Having problems with this step?

    • Your wireless key is case sensitive, watch out for upper and lower case letters
    • Watch out for 0, that's a number zero rather than a letter O
    • To see what you’re typing untick ‘Hide Password’ above the keyboard
    1. On the Network settings screen, select ‘Test network connection’
    2. If the test is successful, your Xbox will connect to the Xbox network and you’re ready to start gaming
    3. If the test isn’t successful select the error message to find out what’s wrong
