Your fibre optic broadband questions answered

Fibre broadband takes its name from ‘Fibre to the Cabinet’ (or FTTC). This technology connects telephone exchanges to street cabinets using fibre optic cables, which are faster at transferring data than standard copper cables. If technology’s your thing, check out our fantastic fibre facts and get the low down on what fibre broadband is.

We offer two fibre packages - Unlimited Fibre and Unlimited Fibre Extra. Both give you incredible speeds and a more reliable connection than standard broadband. They’re made for homes who want to stream, download, play games and do more online all at the same time. Find out what fibre broadband speeds you can get at your address with our broadband postcode checker.

Fibre broadband is quicker, so can handle larger volumes of data and has a more consistent connection than standard broadband.

Our fibre broadband service is available to anyone who lives in a fibre-enabled area. To find out if fibre broadband packages are available at your address, just enter your postcode and telephone number in our broadband postcode checker. We'll then show you what fantastic deals and speeds you can get

You’ll need a working phone line to get our standard fibre and broadband packages.

A landline is how we carry the signal from the street cabinet to your home to connect to your router. If you don’t have a phone line we’ll sort this as part of your order.

If you're new to broadband your service should be up and running after 5-10 working days. If you're transferring your service from another provider there's a 10 working day minimum period.

It uses fibre optic cables including reflective tubes inside that allow data to travel even faster. The faster data can be delivered, the faster your broadband connection will be. If you're looking for the latest broadband technology, check our full-fibre broadband.

Fibre optic broadband is also called FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) or part-fibre. It uses a mix of fibre and copper cables to connect to your home. Fibre optic cables carry signals to your street cabinet, then copper cables connect to your home through your phone line. You’ll find more information in our help section how different types of broadband connect to my home?

Standard Fibre also called part fibre uses a mix of fibre optic and copper cables to get you connected. It’s slightly older technology which means you’ll have a working phone line to carry the signals to your router.

If you’re an existing Plusnet customer you can check your current broadband package by signing in to My Account.

Our fibre broadband and phone packages provide, reliable, superfast speeds up to 66Mb. From just £24.99 a month. To see our latest deals and which packages you can get at your address, just enter your details into our broadband postcode checker.

If you’re working from home or you use multiple devices you’ll definitely a benefit from having a quicker and more reliable connection. Switching is very easy with Plusnet check if you can get fibre.

All our broadband and fibre packages are unlimited. This means you can use the internet as much as like without any limits to how much data you download or upload each month. That’ll do.
