How to connect your broadband

If you've got a router of your own (one that we haven't sent you), read on for the settings to use to get connected. It'll need to be a router that's compatible with our broadband network. So you might not be able to use a router if it came from your old service provider.

If you're using a router from us, like a Plusnet Hub One, you shouldn't need to change any settings. It's ready to start using. But if you're having trouble setting it up, try our router guides or videos. Or take a look at the instructions that came with it.

If you've got standard broadband (not fibre), here are the settings you need. Some of these terms can vary from router to router, but these are the most commonly used.

It asks for: Use:
Broadband username or login name yourusername@plusdsl.net
Connection type or encapsulation 'PPPoA' or 'PPP over ATM'
Password The password you use to log in to the Member Centre
Virtual Path Identifier (VPI) 0
Virtual Channel Identifier (VCI) 38
Multiplexing method 'VC Based' or 'VCMUX' or 'VC-Multiplexing'

Some routers might ask for other settings that aren't in our table. You should be able to stick with the default settings or leave them blank.

If you've been a plusnet customer for a very long time then you may need to use something else after the '@' in the username. If you're unsure have a look at your connection settings in the Member Centre.

If you've got fibre broadband, here are the settings you need. Some of these terms can vary from router to router, but these are the most commonly used.

It asks for: Use:
Broadband username or login name yourusername@plusdsl.net
Connection type or encapsulation PPPoE Always On
Password The password you use to log in to the Member Centre
VLAN Active
VLAN ID (802.1q) 101
VLAN ID (802.1p) 0

Not all routers will ask for all these settings, so don't worry if you can't find some of them. Just make sure the settings it does ask for match the ones above.

If your fibre router is connected to a BT Openreach modem, here are the settings you'll need. Some of these terms can vary from router to router, but these are the most commonly used.

It asks for: Use:
Broadband username or login name yourusername@plusdsl.net
Connection type or encapsulation PPPoE Always On
Password The password you use to log in to the Member Centre
